Introducing Cath: Solutions Consultant – Remote Access

I have been working for Away From My Desk for just over 18 months and throughout this time I feel as though I have gained a huge amount of confidence and experience within the field of IT support.

Away From My Desk is a company that supplies GP surgeries across the country with remote access and support, therefore my role of being a solutions consultant allows me to solve our customers problems on a day-to-day basis and make sure that they are able to use our service successfully. Due to the fact that we mainly supply NHS customers it gives me a great deal of satisfaction being able to know that we are helping GPs, Practice Managers, Admin staff and everyone in between to have a better work life balance and be able to work from home where they feel necessary.

Whilst being at Away From My Desk I have been given the opportunity to complete a Business Administration Level 3 apprenticeship. Through doing this course I have gained a variety of skills and abilities including organisation, management and planning which can be transferrable to other sectors within the business umbrella.

Now I have completed this course I feel as though I can confidently manage resources in line with my organisation’s values and principles and this programme has enabled me to be able to grow a range of skills including communication.

Throughout my course I completed a work-based project, a knowledge test, a portfolio-based interview and also a project presentation, which again aided my confidence in public speaking for example as I had to present the interview and project in front of an assessor that I had never met before.

Throughout the day, as a team we deal with any customer queries as mentioned earlier, meaning that they can have the best experience using our service as possible. We enjoy working together as a team and collating all our knowledge to solve any problems that we may come across. We all have the same role in the company, however we each have an area to look after, I myself look after the finance side of Away From My Desk. I deal with payment, cheques and making sure that all overpayments and refunds are dealt with correctly. I also chase customers for any payments that may have been forgotten and look after all of the invoices and making sure that all invoices are paid in a timely manner. It is important to have someone looking after this side of the company as we need to make sure that we are keeping on top of the payments for subscriptions for example. I enjoy all aspects of my job as it is fulfilling being able to allow our customers to work from where they want, when they want.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my 13-year-old black Labrador at home with my family and also spent time with my friends. Thankfully we are a very close team here at Away From My Desk so at least once a month we go out and make sure we spend time together outside of the work environment, we find that this means that we work better together as a team in the office. We love visiting new restaurants and clubs in the city that we live in and we always make sure that we include two of our ex colleagues who we are still very close with.
