Can I Use My Smart Card or Clinical System Through Away From My Desk?
Unfortunately, at present smart card use through Away From My Desk is not supported. This is because our service simply shows a live image of the screen at work and so plugging the smart card into the home PC will not establish a connection between the smart card and the work PC.
We are hoping this is something we will be able to support in the future.
Although the smart card use isn’t supported, you can still access your clinical system via Away From My Desk.
How Can I Access My Clinical System Without My Smart Card?
You will have a username and password to bypass the smart card login. Away From My Desk do not know this information and nor should we for security reasons. If you are unsure what your login details for your clinical system are, then you will need to contact your practice manager, IT Team or clinical system helpdesk.
Logging into the clinical system without the smart card limits use of EPS and access to the spine. We are aware some users leave their smart card plugged in at the surgery PC in order to get around this issue, however, we advise against this for security reasons.
If you do make the decision to leave your smart card plugged into the work PC, although we highly advise against this for security reasons, you must take full responsibility for the security issues surrounding this and take action to reduce these risks, such as ensuring your room is locked at the surgery.
