The System Says My PC Is Switched Off

If you are unsure why Away From My Desk is displaying your PC as ‘Switched Off’, read the steps below to find out why this is happening and how to resolve this.

Your Work PC Is Switched Off Or In Sleep Mode

If you work PC is switched off or in sleep mode, you will need to contact someone at the surgery to check this.

If the PC is switched off, please request that it is switched back on. We are unable to do this remotely as when a PC is switched off, it disconnects from the internet making it inaccessible through our service.

If your computer is going into sleep mode, it disconnects from the internet. This makes it inaccessible through our service. You will need to amend the settings on the work PC so that this doesn’t happen, otherwise it will continue to cause problems connecting remotely.

Please see our guide on how to do this here.

Your Work PC Has Been Upgraded or Replaced

If your work PC has had upgrades or work carried out, such as a Windows 10 upgrade or a replacement PC put in place, then our software will need to be reinstalled and reconfigured onto your work PC.

Please see here how to arrange this.

Your Work PC Has Disconnected From The Internet

The work PC could be showing as switched off if it has been disconnected from the internet. This could be due to an internet issue at the surgery on the NHS network, or could even be due to a power cut. If this is the problem, it would be likely that all PCs are showing as ‘switched off’.

Please check with the surgery in this case and ensure the PC is connected to the internet.
